ICE Health Systems Release Summary 57.0

We are pleased to announce the release of ICE 57.0.


  • Reporting
    • Ability to report on appointments that do not contain a Patient.
    • Ability to report on Appointment Duration (specified in minutes).
  • Treatment Planning
    • CPT Codes (Medical Codes) are now available for searching when adding or editing treatments. There is a drop-down selector with the options of Dental, Medical or Any.  Note that in order for the CPT Codes to appear, they must be set as Primary on the toggle in Practice Settings > Charting > Code Sets.
    • The CDT 2019 code changes have been implemented and will be effective January 1, 2019.
  • Validation
    • Proposed treatments now generate a validation record so that a validator can approve proposed procedures.
    • The default visibility of a validation item is now its current state in both the desktop and mobile validation views.
      • A history of any changes to each item are now grouped and by default are collapsed but can be expanded using the arrow. Note that Periodontal data will never have historical data because it was defined as providing a single validation entry data entered on the patient by the provider on a given day.
      • Findings and Treatments are no longer grouped under that heading; each finding or treatment is an individual item with a group of any changes made to it.
      • Note that in the desktop validation area, the visuals will update if you click the bold heading or any of the changes shown once the grouping is expanded. Also the filters on the columns are functional when items are expanded.
      • Further improvements to Mobile and Desktop Validation will continue to be included in future releases.


  • Patient/Provider Management
    • For Australia, Canada, Jamaica, Mexico and the USA, state is a required field to save an address.
  • Progress Notes
    • Hover text has been added for the following icons:
      • Red exclamation mark – “Validation Required”
      • Black lock icon – “Locked”
      • Black edit document icon – “Draft”
  • Referrals
    • When creating a new Referral, the “Referring Provider” should default to the logged-in user.  An exception is if the provider’s account is not set as a “Referring Provider”, in which case the field would be left blank.
  • Reporting
    • Event Summary has been added as a Search Option in the Audit Log Report.
    • Providers who have a status of “Inactive” no longer show in the searches for “Add a Relationship”.
  • Scheduling
    • The number of associated procedures are now shown on the appointment cards on the Next Visits Panel, Provider Appointments Panel, Schedule Grid and when hovering over an appointment on the Clipboard.
  • Treatment Planning
    • For procedures where surfaces cannot be selected, the surface selector no longer appears.
    • For material findings where surfaces cannot be selected, the surface selectors are now faded (and not selectable).
    • When in ‘Create Consent’ mode, the action button shows a count of how many treatments have been selected for a consent.
    • When treatments are being added to the plan, they will no longer be shown on the panel until they have been saved.
  • User Experience
    • The warnings that continually appeared when entering an address for an individual (e.g. patient) or clinic are no longer present. The fields that are required for an address remain highlighted in red until complete.
  • Validation
    • A red exclamation mark has been added to documents that require validation from the Patient Documents panel.
    • In the Mobile Validation view, there is now a button “Validate Record Group” for each validation group as well as an arrow to expand or collapse the details of that group.
    • The ability for validation to occur by a validator entering their password on another user’s computer is now an Internal Practice Set-up option. Practices will choose their method(s) of validation prior to using their environment and ICE can configure this option to not appear for those customer who only want to use Mobile or Desktop validation by the logged in provider.


  • Documents
    • Fixed the issue where the Document window was stuck after canceling from the data hook individual select.
  • Data Import/Export
    • Fixed several issues related to email validations.
  • Patient Portal
    • The Patient Portal is currently an Alpha Component of ICE, so the following changes have been made:
      • For Collaborations that include a Patient, the “Patient Portal Visible” toggle has been removed.
      • On the Patient Documents Panel, the “PV” checkbox and column for “Patient Portal Visible” has been removed.
  • Patient/Provider Management
    • Fixed an issue where individual’s address, email, and phone number entries would disappear when their types were set to Inactive from Practice Settings.
    • There is no longer a 6 character limitation for the Suffix field for names.
  • Practice Settings
    • Addressed various issues related to Code Macros.
    • Fixed an issue where saving a Code Exclusion was displaying an ‘Internal Server’ error.
    • There was no error message displayed when applying an availability template that doesn’t have any defined time ranges.  A helpful message is now displayed when a user first selects such a template and when the “Apply” button is clicked.
  • Scheduling
    • Fixed an issue with the Next Visits panel when creating an unscheduled appointment from the panel.
  • Telehealth
    • Fixed some issues when creating and running Telehealth sessions.
  • Treatment Planning
    • Addressed issues related to displaying and charting on Microsurfaces.
    • Fixed issues with scaling of the odontogram in the Findings input window.
    • Fixed the issue related to using the filter/sort options on the General Procedure List and Treatment Planning Panel when those panels are near the bottom of the workspace.
    • Fixed the issue of ensuring validation on the required field “Replacement of Prosthesis” for the appropriate prosthodontic treatment codes.
  • Validation
    • Findings History now shows “Validated By” and “Validated On” columns.
    • Fixed several issues related to Mobile Validation.
    • Fixed the issue where validation occurred when selecting any other provider from the search box.  This method of validating now always prompts for a password or provides an error message if the provider does not have a password defined.
    • Fixed the issue where the red exclamation mark was not disappearing from the Progress Note panel until the page was refreshed.
  • User Experience
    • Provider > Profile has been moved to the end of the Provider sub-menu list, to be consistent with similar account settings menus like Patient Management and Practice Settings.
    • Small improvements have been implemented throughout the system.
